November 4, 2008 - Foster Home Sued Over Boy's Starvation Death

A Detroit foster home has been sued for $30 million over the starvation death of Johnny Dragomir, a 10-year-old boy who was born with cerebral palsy and spastic quadriplegia. The lawsuit, which has been filed by the boy's mother, Elena Andron, alleges that her son had lost 40 pounds at the Monroe Foster Care facility before being found dead on the floor beside his bed on March 9, 2007. According to the medical examiner's report, the wheelchair-bound boy had no food or liquid in his stomach at the time of his death, which appeared to be caused by a caloric protein malnutrition.

Court documents filed by the boy's mother claim that her son's food chart contained over 500 blank entries in the year before his death. According to Andron's attorney, Dragomir had not been fed at least that many times. Andron says that she complained about his diet on several occasions to no avail.

No criminal charges were filed against the foster care home or any of its employees. The home is no longer in operation. Dragomir's mother said that she just wants justice for her child.
