October 14, 2008 - Nursing Home Evacuated After Carbon Monoxide Leak

Over 100 nursing home residents had to be evacuated from a Wayne, New York assisted living facility after a carbon monoxide leak was discovered early Tuesday morning. Just before 1 a.m. residents were evacuated from the CareOne at Wayne senior center after a malfunctioning boiler leaked the deadly gas throughout the facility, officials said.

The residents were herded into tents, which were set up by authorities to keep them warm after evacuation. They were later transported to other elderly care centers in the vicinity, where they may have to remain for days before being able to return to their home.

None of the residents were injured, officials said.
