A $250,000 settlement was agreed to by the family of a New York woman who died after an altercation at the Phoenix airport, sources told the New York Post.
The newspaper said the deal was with Carol Anne Gotbaum's estate and three children. A total of $5.5 million had been sought from the city and its police department.
The settlement will have to be approved by a judge because the children are all minors.
Authorities said Gotbaum, 45, accidentally strangled herself while locked up in a holding cell at the airport following a disturbance inside the terminal in 2007.
Gotbaum had been drinking and became irate after she missed her connection to Tucson, where she was to check into an alcohol rehabilitation facility. After creating a disturbance in the terminal, she was handcuffed and placed in the cell, authorities said.
Gotbaum was the daughter of New York City Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum.
