Jay-Z files suit over bar music

World Entertainment News Network - December 2, 2009

JAY-Z has become the latest musician to take legal action over songs played in entertainment venues - he's filed suit against a tea house in Alabama.

Jon Bon Jovi, Gwen Stefani and Taylor Swift are all suing venues over allegations their music has been played in bars without a proper licence - and now the hip-hop mogul is following suit.

Jay-Z has filed papers against bosses at the A Spot of Tea venue in Mobile, Alabama, which doubles up as a nightclub, alleging they have played his songs without permission.

The star's action comes as part of an investigation by The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), a performing rights organisation which collects royalties, according to TMZ.com. (LR/WNWCZM/)
