Samsung accuses Sharp of patent infringement

Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) - December 3, 2009

Seoul (dpa) - South Korean company Samsung Electronics has reported its Japanese competitor Sharp to the US International Trade Commission (ITC) for allegedly violating its patents for LCD television screens, a spokeswoman for the company said Thursday in Seoul.

She did not provide further details.

Samsung is the world's largest producer of memory chips and LCD televisions. Both companies have been locked in a dispute over the intellectual property rights relating to LCD technology.

Sharp was successful in November when the ITC upheld a complaint against Samsung for violating the Japanese company's patents.

It also imposed a ban on the import of the affected products into the US, a decision which is currently under review by US authorities.
