sport game injuries Clark, NJ

Injuries that occur during a child’s sports game or other activity can be difficult for parents to witness. In many cases, kids may be left unable to play their sport after an injury – or they may miss significant time from school, work or vacations. Fortunately, there are some tips to try and avoid such injuries.

What are some common types of sports injuries?

Concussion
Probably one of the most commonly discussed injuries in the sports world are concussions, which have the potential to be extremely dangerous. While some might think that football is the only sport that can cause a serious concussion, many other sports have the same potential. Participating in basketball, lacrosse, soccer or even baseball can result in a concussion, and wearing a helmet, mouth guard or other protective gear could be the difference between a serious concussion, a very mild one, or even avoiding an injury altogether.

Torn ACL
Ligament injuries of the knee are also very common sports injuries. Not only can they be extremely painful, but surgical treatment for a torn knee ligament may require recovery times of as much as a year, and may sometimes leave the student athlete permanently unable to participate in the activity. This is a very difficult injury to prevent because it often occurs in highly demanding motion sports, although the use of a knee brace can sometimes limit the severity, or may even prevent such a knee injury.
