Couple killed in pedestrian accident after being struck by car on route 22 in bridgewater, nj

Two people were tragically killed in a pedestrian accident on a Bridgewater NJ highway in September 2016, but authorities have yet to charge the driver in connection with the fatal crash.

The tragic auto accident occurred on Route 22 in Bridgewater around 3:15 a.m. According to law enforcement officials, the pedestrians were in the process of crossing the highway when a 2004 Toyota Sienna crashed into them.

Bridgewater patrol officers responded to the scene and found the two victims lying on the pavement. Emergency medical responders were unable to revive the victims, who were pronounced dead at the scene of the pedestrian accident.

Authorities later identified the two victims as a 23-year-old female from East Brunswick NJ and a 29-year-old male from East Brunswick NJ.
The driver of the Toyota involved in the motor vehicle accident remained at the scene after the collision. He was briefly treated by emergency medical crews and then taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

Traffic safety officers and detectives with the Bridgewater Township Police Department conducted an investigation into the fatal accident. Police officers spoke with the manager of a Bridgewater motel who told them that the victims were a couple and that they had checked-in at the motel just a few hours before the car crash. One thing that investigators have not yet been able to determine is why the victims were attempting to walk across the highway at such a late hour of night.

Although pedestrians should certainly exercise caution when trying to cross the street, it is important to keep in mind that motorists have a legal duty to operate their vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.
