A young child died after being struck by a car on a roadway in Plainfield, New Jersey.
The fatal accident occurred around 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of Park Avenue and West Second Street in Plainfield NJ and just one block away from the Plainfield train station. The victim, a three-year-old girl, was being led across the street in a stroller by her mother when a red Toyota Camry sedan crashed into both of them. The injuries to the young victim were catastrophic. The girl’s mother also sustained significant physical injuries in the car crash.
After the auto accident, both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital. Tragically, doctors at the medical facility were unable to save the young girl; she was pronounced dead sometime after arriving at the hospital. It was later determined that the victim died due to trauma suffered in the car collision.
Meanwhile, the adult victim was stabilized at the hospital. However, the day after the car accident, she was still listed in critical condition. Thankfully, she was released from the hospital a few days later.
Plainfield NJ police are currently conducting an investigation into the fatal vehicle accident. The driver of the car that struck the victims was not hurt in the car crash. He is said to be fully cooperating with investigators and has not yet been charged with any criminal offenses or traffic violations in connection with the accident. Carl Riley, the Plainfield police director, stated that the investigation is still in the early stages and that it is “premature at this point to determine if the driver will face any charges.”
Regardless of the outcome of the investigation and the exact circumstances of the car crash, it is likely that the adult victim will be able to file a personal injury lawsuit and a wrongful death claim against the driver.
