Nature made vitamins recalled due to risk of salmonella, staphylococcus aureus

vitamin recall Clark, NJ

A dietary supplements company based out of California has issued a major product recall of vitamins due to risk of serious illness.

Pharmavite, LLC, which manufactures the extremely popular Nature Made brand of vitamins, has issued a voluntary recall of several supplements because some of the company’s products could expose consumers to salmonella and Staphylococcus aureus.

The items recalled by the vitamin company are distributed under the Nature Made label and include gummy adult vitamins and folic acid supplements. The specific products that have been recalled are Nature Made Adult Gummies Multi vitamins, Nature Made Adult Gummies Multi + Omega-3, Nature Made Adult Gummies Multi for Her plus Omega-3s, and Nature Made Super B Complex with C Folic Acid Tablets. All of these vitamin products are sold at stores throughout the country, including New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Company officials at Pharmavite fear that the recalled products could put consumers at risk of salmonella and staph contamination. The safety and health issue was discovered when Pharmavite learned that some batches of these products were not properly tested for salmonella and Staphylococcus aureus. Both of these illnesses can cause serious health problems, including nausea, fever and vomiting. In the worst cases, salmonella and Staphylococcus aureus can result in wrongful death.

At this point, the recall is being issued voluntarily, with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) merely providing guidance and assistance as needed.

Pharmavite released a statement about the recall, declaring that the vitamin company took this action out of an “abundance of caution to protect public health.
However, it is likely that the company issued the recall in order to stave off potential product liability and personal injury lawsuits if consumers suffer serious illnesses.

Meanwhile, Pharmavite has reportedly taken steps to ensure proper testing of the company’s vitamin products going forward.

The vitamin company has asked retailers and distributors to remove the affected products from store shelves. Additionally, consumers who may have purchased Nature Made vitamins should take a look inside their medicine cabinets just to be sure. Anyone who has one of the affected products is encouraged to return them to the store for a refund.
