How you could get hurt at a football game
Football season is in full swing, which means fans will spend Sundays packed into hometown stadiums, screaming in support of their favorite players and teams. Anywhere there are crowds, there’s a risk of injury, and football stadiums are certainly no exception. There’s no limit to the kinds of injuries that can be sustained in a stadium, but the following are some of the most common instances:
- Slippery floors and surfaces: Drinks are spilled and puddles are formed. When you’re walking in a crowd, it can be almost impossible to spot a slick surface in time to avoid it.
- Inadequate personnel: There are far more fans than there are safety personnel at the stadium. You could be injured simply because the people who are there to keep you safe are spread too thin.
- Hit by a projectile or piece of equipment: It happens more frequently than you would like to think. Nets and safety barriers sometimes fail, and pieces of sporting equipment fly into the stands.
- Heatstroke or dehydration: Even on a breezy day, the afternoon sun can be damaging. Be sure to drink plenty of water, or run the risk of suffering from heatstroke.
